Preservation Architects and Architectural Historians at JLK prepare heritage documentation packages for historic buildings, structures, and sites throughout the region. The federal and state heritage documentation programs record historic sites and structures through the creation of measured drawings, large-format archival photographs, and historical reports for public benefit. JLK prepares heritage documentation for the federal Historic American Building Survey (HABS) and Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) as well as at the state Historic Illinois Building Survey (HIBS) and Historic Illinois Engineering Record (HIER).

The Secretary of the Interior-qualified Preservation Architects and Architectural Historians at JLK are well-versed in the standards, guidelines, and procedures of the National Park Service Heritage Documentation Programs. Our team expertly documents existing conditions, analyzes historic architectural drawings, and conducts thorough archival research to prepare documentation packages that adhere to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Architectural and Engineering Documentation to generate heritage documentation.
