Discovery Partners Institute Feasibility Study
Research-driven design for a new collaborative research institute facility.
JLK completed a two-phase feasibility study that explored the viability of locating a new Discovery Partners Institute (DPI) facility at a site within “The 78 Development” in Chicago.
During Phase I, JLK conducted programming studies through stakeholder interviews, precedent studies, and use analysis. The result of this research informed the development of a program, site strategies, and goals for the new facility. During Phase II, JLK drew upon the research and survey results to develop several massing and adjacencies studies for the new facility. JLK engaged a cost estimator to perform cost analysis for each massing design. A final report documented all aspects of the study.
The DPI is a purpose-driven, collaborative research institute located in Chicago led by the University of Illinois System. DPI aims to reinvent the role of the research university through interdisciplinary public-private partnerships that drive technology-based economic growth.
